Students must ensure that the university offers the desired courses in the language for which they have proven proficiency. Otherwise, they may lose the spot.
⚠️ Language course completion certificates are not accepted. Only official proficiency certificates.
Note: CELIN offers, on specific dates, proficiency tests in English accepted by some universities.
Depending on budget availability, UFPR may offer financial support to the top-ranked students in each department. Information about the granting of the scholarship will only be available at the beginning of the semester scheduled for mobility.
The process has 3 stages:
Yes. Each student may apply to up to a maximum of 3 universities, listed in order of preference. The first listed is the priority, and the order cannot be changed after submission, the system respects this order when allocating.
The number of available spots will be indicated within the system at the time of application.
Automatically by the system, considering the student’s final score and order of university preference.
Final results of the selection process are published on the International Office (ERI) portal: (www.internacional.ufpr.br) on the date mentioned in each call for applications.
Students confirm their participation will be contacted via their UFPR email with instructions about documents required by the institution. This usually happens 2–3 months after results are published.
No. Nominations are handled institutionally by the [International Relations Office] ERI. Applications sent Independently will be automatically rejected. Only ERI can submit applications to partner universities.
Once the application has been submitted, the university reviews the application and issues an Acceptance Letter if approved which will be sent to the ERI and then forwarded to the student.
Each university has its own deadlines and procedures; ERI has no influence over them.
Yes. Host institutions have full autonomy to accept, reject, or reduce the exchange period.
Acceptance depends solely on them, and the Acceptance Letter is essential for continuing the process because it specifies the period of study for which the student has been admitted.
Generally, tuition fees are waived under cooperation agreement signed between UFPR and the foreign institutions. However, some universities may charge administrative or registration fees. Students are responsible for:
With the original letter of Acceptance, the student must begin consular visa procedures and other bureaucratic steps for entering the country.
Visa application and compliance with country requirements are the student’s sole responsibility.
ERI does not mediate visa processes.
No. Students remain enrolled under the “Academic Mobility” status in the SIGA system. This status will have semester validity, depending on the mobility period. This procedure is conditional on the student submitting proof of enrollment/declaration of arrival and the start of classes at the institution for the corresponding period of activities outside UFPR.
The student may remain on mobility through the ERI for 6 months or for a maximum period of 1 year, with no possibility of extension beyond this deadline.
For mobilities lasting less than 6 months, the student may extend up to 1 year depending on the university’s availability of additional spots and approval of the extension.
The process must be formalized through ERI but cannot exceed 1-year or extend into later semesters.
When the extension request overlaps with the allocation of new spots for the following semester, it may be denied by the ERI if it interferes with institutional interests.
Validation depends on each course coordination, which decides on equivalence of courses taken abroad.

No. Most times, foreign universities require specific agreements or do not offer student mobility opportunities. This consultation is carried out by the ERI before each public notice, which updates the selection process system with available spots and other requirements, such as GPA, language level, etc.
Requests to formalize International Cooperation Agreements must be submitted by a UFPR FACULTY MEMBER, via SEI process to the UFPR/R/GAB/ERI inbox, containing:
Agreement templates are available on the International Relations Office website.
Graduate students (master’s and doctorate) can develop their thesis/dissertation under a cotutelle arrangement.
The student will have a supervisor at UFPR and another at the foreign university, carrying out an international academic activity and after fulfilling all requirements, will receive a diploma by each institution.
Procedures for requesting cotutelle agreement formalization are available on: International Relations Office. In general, agreements are signed individually for each candidate.
Just like cotutelle, the student has one supervisor at UFPR and another at the foreign university, carries out an international stay, and after fulfilling all requirements receives a diploma from each institution.
However, the double-degree program creates a deeper and more structured partnerships between institutions depending on a detailed agreement.
Currently, UFPR has agreements that allow double degrees for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students.
The courses can be consulted on International Relations Office.
Good relations between countries and people from different cultures depend mainly on understanding others and respecting differences.
Before undertaking mobility abroad or before an international student comes to Brazil, UFPR recommends studying the language and culture of the country..
Knowing the language and cultural aspects minimizes failures or disappointments and greatly helps adaptation to new life, even for a short period.
Therefore, it is important to learn about the country and study its language and culture.
Yes, through the Andifes Languages without Borders Network (IsF), UFPR offers FREE language courses throughout the year.
Courses are available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese.
To enroll, students must register through a specific public notice.
Each offer is published on the ERI website, and information is also sent via the Internationalization Newsletter (sent to your institutional email).
These courses are usually online but may also be in-person, normally held at the UFPR Campus Reitoria .
To check the offers, visit the ERI website: https://internacional.ufpr.br/portal/editais-isf/
Most IsF courses aim to prepare for academic mobility, this means that you should already know a little of the language and want to deepen your knowledge.
Therefore, IsF offers courses as academic writing, academic reading, oral presentations, seminar presentations, among others.
All undergraduate and graduate students, technical staff, faculty, outsourced staff, and/or Funpar staff.
UFPR Language students are the teachers of the IsF courses. They are supervised by professors of the UFPR Language faculty.
To become an IsF teacher, you need to apply in specific teacher selection calls.
These are available on the ERI website: https://internacional.ufpr.br/portal/editais-isf/ .
IsF teachers receive scholarships for their work.
Each IsF language area has at least one UFPR professor responsible.
The contact list of these professors is available on the ERI website: https://internacional.ufpr.br/portal/isf-idiomas-sem-fronteiras/
Yes, you will receive an extension course certificate upon successful completion of your IsF language course.
This certificate may also be accepted in some undergraduate programs as complementary academic activities. Check with your course coordination.
If you have never studied the language and need to start from the basic levels, plan your pathway through the language courses you will need to take, so that from the middle of your undergraduate studies onward, you achieve proficiency in the target language for mobility.
Soon, suggested language course pathways will be available on the ERI website.
Celin (UFPR’s Language and Intercultural Center) usually offers regular language courses, that is, traditional level-based courses such as Basic 1, Basic 2, Basic 3, Intermediate 1, etc.
IsF may offer some similar courses, but generally focuses on courses designed for academic international mobility preparation, such as Academic Writing in English, Seminar Presentation in Spanish, Specialized Reading of Academic Articles in Italian, Improving Spoken English, etc.

At UFPR, Celin offers English proficiency tests through specific public notices.
